This article details the steps a candidate will take in the Cambridge English Test portal, Metrica, from logging in to starting and ending the test. This article is specifically for the Schools version of the Cambridge English Skills Test.
Logging in
Candidates will navigate to the login screen of the Cambridge English Test portal, Metrica:
https://www.metritests.com/metrica/CambridgeEnglish.aspx
Candidates will need the following information to log in:
- Username
- Password
- Institutional ID.
Candidates need to take care when typing the log in information as they are case sensitive. If a candidate enters these incorrectly five times or more they will be logged out of the Cambridge English Test Portal, Metrica.
Terms & Conditions
When candidates log in for the first time they will be asked to accept the Terms and Conditions. A link to the Terms and Conditions is provided on the screen. Candidates must tick the box and click Continue.
The Home Page
On the Candidate’s Home page all active tests are shown. In the example below all four components. Test components are started by clicking on the "card", which details the name of the module. The invigilator should tell the candidate which "card" to click on first (Reading, Listening, Writing or Speaking).
Once the test is completed the test will move to the Completed tab.
Candidate Registration Page
Once the candidate has clicked on a "card", the registration Your Details page will show. The information displayed is based on the information entered by the Institution or Client/School. The candidate should carefully check that their details are correct and complete any additional mandatory fields, which are indicated by a * red asterisk.
If any of the information is incorrect, the Invigilator should note this and pass to the institution to amend in the candidate's user account in Metrica.
The following information is optional and candidate's may provide this.
Candidates taking the Cambridge English Skills Test Schools variant should not submit an email address, phone number or Candidate ID. They should move to the bottom of the screen and click Submit.
Starting the test
The candidates will now see the session screen and must click Open. The test will then open in a new content player window.
Each module starts with a page of instructions specific to the module.
The Listening test has a sound check page to ensure the candidate can hear the test audio clearly:
The Speaking test has a sound and microphone check to ensure audio can be heard and recorded successfully.
For all modules, candidates should read the instructions carefully before clicking on the arrow in the bottom right corner to proceed.
Closing the Test
Invigilators must ensure all browsers are closed once candidates have completed the test. To close the test, click the Close button.
If more than one module is being taken the candidate must navigate to the home page so they are ready to start the next test.
If a candidate finishes early, the invigilator can instruct the candidate to click the End Test button. They will then be asked if they want to Submit their answers, click OK and End the test.
