Information for Invigilators of INTO English Language Assessment tests
Students will receive the below error message if a recording is too quiet.
If students see the above error message, the microphone settings have not been correctly configured. To address this:
- Click on the Check Flash settings link. This will open the flash setting box.
- Click the ‘microphone’ icon and adjust the Record Volume setting, by dragging the slider to the right. Make sure in the drop-down list of microphones you have selected the microphone your student is using. This is not necessarily the default one. Hint: If you speak into the candidate's microphone you should see a green bar moving up and down on the left hand side of the window (shown below) if it is selected correctly.
- Also, make sure that the Reduce Echo check-box is ticked.
If successful, you should be able to re-record and see the following confirmation message:
If you continue to receive the "recording is too quiet" error, it may well be that you have to increase the recording level of your sound card within your Windows operating system. Please reference the following Microsoft article on how to do this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/266677
